Future Classroom Teaching Reading

Image
Into the Future.... I am so excited to be able to be in my own classroom implementing all these amazing ideas and strategies that I have learned over the years at Columbia College. One thing that I have been super excited about and that I have held near and dear to my heart during this last stretch of my education is reading and how that will look in my future classroom. It is hard to imagine because you really do not know where you will end up especially fresh out of college. I do know that teaching reading is going to be something that I truly will look forward to in my classroom. Which is almost strange to me because I never really cared to read growing up and I really do not read very much now. When I am reading to my students and I watch how excited they are about a book and I get really into it and just watch how much they love it, I know exactly why I choose this career.  Also, teaching reading is not an easy task at all. Teaching reading will be so hard,...

5 Books For My Unit Plan!

Image
The Fabulous Five:  In my unit plan this semester I have obtained some fun books that help me teach my students how to recognize characters and settings, character traits, comparing and contrast characters, cause and effect, and recognizing begging, middle, and end. Here is a list and how I will use it in the lesson.  1. The Rainbow Fish - Students will be able to describe the character and setting in this story by creating a character and setting Pyramid.  2. Where The Wild Things Are -  students will be able to describe the characters and setting, by writing and illustrating what they read. They will be doing this by listing the different characters, writing a sentence about their  traits and then drawing a picture.  3.  Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs -  Students will be able to describe the character traits of the main characters and compare and contrast them using a Venn diagram. 4.  A Bad Case of Str...

Lesson Plan Presentation's EDUC-337

Lesson Plan Presentation: I absolutely Love when my fellow classmates and I are able to present our creative lesson plans. This is something I actually look forward to each class. I truly enjoy listening and Learning about all the creativity that they have all put together. We have been together in class after class and have heard each other speak on our lesson plans a lot. It always amazes me that no lesson plan is ever the same. I'm starting this journey of education I felt a little unconfident. I felt as though my lesson plans will never be good enough, my creativity never creative enough, and my love for teaching never enough. I am so blessed to have such an awesome group of men and women that all work together and support each other even if we are all at different points in our education. With that being said I wholeheartedly enjoyed our lesson plans last class, and cannot wait to hear more. After listening to these presentations I always feel inspired to research more g...

Teaching Vocabulary

Teaching Vocabulary: Teaching vocabulary is very important in the classroom setting and can be done many different ways. When teaching vocabulary you can be as creative as you would like and really get your students active in the processes. I think teaching vocabulary should be fun for us as the teacher as well as the students! Here is 5 ways that I would like to implement teaching vocabulary into my classroom!  1. Playing Games: There are many games that we can play to help students learn vocabulary!  2. Vocabulary Journals: These journals can be kept all year round and can be something for students to look back on to help them!  3. Mini Lessons: I personally like mini lessons they are a great way to teach a lesson in a small amount of time! Here is a neat one that gets students involved!  4. Pocket Charts are another great way to help students learn vocabulary. You could be teaching sight words or even creating sentences with vocabulary students alread...

Word Wall

Image
W o r d W a l l s When thinking of word walls I can not imagine a classroom with out them! I also can not imagine all the hard work that goes into making a word wall and changing it all the time! I stumble across some portable word walls on Pinterest and was like, game changer!!I think it is important to put time into your bulletin boards and really think about how useful they will be to students. If you have a board that is just thrown up and plain jane than let's be honest students aren't going to use it. Also, if you put a lot of work into a bulletin board and you are proud of it but it is not purposeful then your hard work was for nothing! This is where a portable word wall comes in to play! It is functional, its a space saver, it is hands on and engaging, students will love it! Below are some pictures a portable word wall and I have linked the blog post from Kindergarten Korner by Casey!                     ...

To Truths & A Lie - Introduction

Image
Hello, Welcome to Miss. Rylee's Educational Journey Blog! I'm super excited to have some new faces here at the blog, its been awhile. I will start with a little introduction about myself and my life, let's get started!  I grew up in a small town in Northeast Missouri near the Mark Twain Lake. As you can imagine I spent a lot of time outdoors, swimming, boating, kayaking and much more! When I moved out the day after High School graduation, I spent the summer with my sister at The Lake of The Ozark's working at a summer camp, then moved to Columbia to start a new chapter in my life...college!  After two years of living in Columbia I bumped into the man of my dreams and best friend that I get to marry this October (go away corona). We have a black lab named Winston who just turned 3 today, and loves water!! We all love to spend time outdoors wether it is going back to Mark Twain lake and boating or exploring his family farm.  Here we are still today, so close t...
