Unit Plan Mini Presentations!
1. What was the most difficult part of designing the unit plan for you?
The hardest part for me was coming up with a fun assessment at the end of our
lesson plans that assessed over everything without giving my first graders a test.
2. What is the most significant learning you had about unit design?
At first I thought everything was so messy but when it was all said and done
everything looked super organized and set the tone for my lesson plans.
3. What felt inauthentic to you about unit design?
I felt that the unit design was pretty cut and dry, it was organized but I also felt
that I was just repeating everything that was in my lesson plans already.
4. Do you feel like you would ever actually teach this unit? Why or why not
Yes, I would love to teach this unit to actual first graders! I think that it would be a
very fun unit plan and my first graders would love it! I also think it may be a lot of
work because one of our lessons takes us on a field trip to the Columbia
Planetarium. This would need clearance, transportation etc.
Interesting...
I thought it was interesting that a lot of us had the same thoughts and ideas over these questions and our unit plans. A lot of us said that our assessments were a struggle for us during our unit plan, I think this was because this was our first unit and lesson plan and we did't really know what to expect.
One other thing that I didn't mention but others did was that they struggled with how much time they should allow. I would have to agree that this was a struggle for me as well, I think that this can always be changed though once we actually get into the classroom we will have a better understanding.
A lot of us also felt that we were kind of repeating ourselves and it felt inauthentic. I also felt the same, but in the end once it was all put together it looked really organized and I think next time I will be doing my unit and lessons in a different order to help me stay organized through out.
Hi Rylee,
ReplyDeleteI agree, I felt like I had a lot going on in some of my lessons, and that we may not have enough time. One thing that I have heard from teachers as I do my observations is that it is better to over plan than to not have enough for students to do. A lot of times I have also seen teachers continue the lesson on the next day when they didn't have enough time to go over everything in the day they planned for.
I think your lesson would be a lot of fun, and that seems like a super fun and informative field trip. I think it is awesome when students can piece the different elements they are learning together with things/events that they experience. Great job!
I loved your honest comments. Somethings do seem redundant, but they are there for different reasons. For example the cover sheet has all the details BEFORE you teach. Then those same details are found in the lesson plans. Then the assessment plan reminds us of what we have already done to prepare for the assessment. Hope that helps! :)
